CLARK 'TWIGGY'

A hundred years of innovation

Clark is celebrating 100 years of innovation in the material handling industry from the first tructractor to modern forklifts. Today, we reflect on one of Clark's many contributions that changed the material handling industry.

In the 1960's, Clark observed a growing demand for a compact light-duty forklift, specifically for warehouse applications. To address the need, Clark introduced the first 3 wheel electric forklift available to the U.S. in 1967. Affectionately nicknamed the 'Twiggy', the model TW15 quickly gained popularity.

With a capacity of 1,500 lbs, the Twiggy could turn within it's own radius using a unique two drive motor design. This enabled customers to shrink warehouse aisles, thereby increasing the utilization of the warehouse space.

Forklift engineering has advanced since the days of the Twiggy, but the basic idea of this machine survives in model TMX15S (a modern truck with a capacity of 3,000 lbs). Clark keeps the fundamental design features of Twiggy intact, allowing companies to make the most out of any warehouse.
