Let Freedom and Safety Ring!

As we celebrate freedom, a hum will grow from morning until night in recognition of Independence Day. A pleasant mix of idle chat between friends and neighbors will welcome the morning. As the day progresses the masses will flock to enjoy the sunshine. Between the parades, parties, and barbecues, a patriotic roar will echo across the states in preparation for the main event after the sun goes down. And as night falls, a combination of joyous whistles, inspired oohs and awes, sparks, and booms will ring through the air.  

While the noise and fun will reign, be sure your fun won’t get interrupted by any avoidable firework incidents. To help your Fourth of July go unperturbed, we would like to share some recommended firework safety tips.

  • Obey all local laws regarding the use of fireworks

  • Know your fireworks, read the cautionary labels and performance descriptions prior to igniting

  • Have a responsible adult supervising all firework activities

  • Light one firework at a time, and then move quickly to a safe distance

  • Use fireworks outdoors in a clear area, away from buildings, vehicles, and flammable objects

  • Never relight a ‘dud’ firework, wait twenty minutes then soak it in a bucket of water

  • Do not experiment with homemade fireworks

  • Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them, and place them in a non-flammable can away from combustible materials until the following day

  • FAA regulations prohibit the possession and transportation of fireworks in your checked baggage or carry-on luggage

  • Report illegal explosives to the police and/or fire departments

Remember the safety of our pets!

  • Don’t bring pets to a fireworks display

  • If fireworks may be used near your home, place your pets in a safe, interior room to avoid exposure to the sound

  • Make sure your pet has an identification tag in case they run off during a fireworks display

  • Never shoot fireworks of any kind near pets
